A primary school teacher's stance on homework has gone viral after the mother of one of her students shared a note she received detailing the teacher's "New Homework Policy".

The policy informs parents that that Mrs Brandy Young's classroom will be trying something new - homework will only consist of work that the student didn't complete in class that day, as opposed to any additional work.

"Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance," says Mrs Young. "Rather, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early."

The note was posted to Facebook by mum Samantha Gallagher, where it's been shared almost 70,000 times.
