Last week Kay Brown was travelling during rush hour on the subway in New York City when a homeless, mentally handicapped woman stepped on completely barefoot. So Kay took off her own shoes and handed them to the lady.

Kay then remained on the train for 15 minutes with her mismatched socks on show to all her fellow passengers. That was when another kind soul offered to help. A man gave Kay a thick pair of socks to wear over her thin ones before she walked six blocks home.

The New Yorker posted her story to Facebook:

A homeless, mentally handicapped women got on the subway BAREFOOT. No socks, shoes or anything. I asked her what shoe...

In an interview with ABC News she revealed that the homeless woman cried when she put the boots on. Kay went on to say:

“Right now there’s so many terrible things happening, I mean absolutely terrible things happening, and I wanted to share some positive energy. I wasn’t trying to do that to pat my own back, I just wanted to be like this was really cool, this was an awesome moment for me, and I wanted to share with other people. And I can’t believe how something so small turned into something so great.”
