Three contestants on The Chase were branded "thieves" by people on social media after they accepted negative offers from the chaser. Now the man who initially won the team £9000 (NZ $15,942) has responded to the hate his teammates have received.

Darragh Ennis has defended the other players' quiz show sins saying: "Can people ease off my teammates. It's a lot harder on camera than sitting on the couch at home.

"They're good people who crumbled under a lot of pressure."

The team ended up beating the chaser and walking away with £6300 (NZ $ 11,161) - $ 2790 each.

Darragh revealed what he did with his share of the winnings - which he said he spent not long after the show.

"My wife had it spent on a new door pretty much before I got home!"

What a good sport!
