What do Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Elsa from Frozen, and Jasmine from Aladdin all have in common?

They all are seen predominantly wearing blue… and it turns out there’s a very specific reason behind it.

According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color institute, it’s all about empowering females, ‘You’re adding a bit of power to the character by giving her the blue.’

She also noted it’s a positive colour, because it reminds us of the sky.

Beatrice says, ’It's something to look forward to, to see that blue sky. It’s dependable. It’s reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it’s there.’

Costume designer Jacqueline Durran, who devised Emma Watson's blue outfit in the new live-action Beauty and the Beast, said that the a blue wardrobe was full of "active strength", adding: "There is a sort of refinement and crispness to light blue, but there's also blue in workwear.

"It is a practical colour, and a colour that you can work in."

Isn't it awesome to know there's a powerful message behind the pretty shade!
