Six people are in hospital following a serious crash near Taupo involving three vehicles.

The accident happened just before 7am on the corner of Anzac Memorial Drive and State Highway 1 in the suburb of Wharewaka, near the Taupo Airport.

One vehicle rolled and one person had to pulled from a car by firefighters.

St John Ambulance officers treated six people at the scene and took them to hospital.

One victim is in a serious condition, two are in moderate conditions and three have minor injuries.
