A Bachelor "insider" has revealed the extreme conditions bachelorettes were subjected to while filming the reality dating show, saying women would "pass out" at the rose ceremony.

Contestants on The Bachelor Australia would have to participate in cocktail parties that often went on into the early hours of the morning leading to exhaustion.

"They last for hours, sometimes wrapping up as late as 5am. Despite this, the girls would be required to get up for hair and makeup at 9am the following morning," the insider revealed to the Daily Mail Australia.

"The rose ceremony room is hot and dry. While filming this season, one of the girls' contact lenses kept drying out because she was standing there for so long. Sometimes hair and makeup would run late for cocktail parties, so some girls were sent into the cocktail party without being fed and plied with alcohol," they added.

"They weren't allowed to go into the kitchen to get a quick bite before the rose ceremony in case they missed anything during a cocktail party."

According to the source, there were "several occasions" where contestants passed out during the rose ceremony and the women were "clearly drained" by the hectic filming schedule.

"The contestants would be berated if they weren't enthusiastic about filming a scene and would have to re-shoot it many times until it was 'perfect'. In one instance, the girls had finished filming a rose ceremony into the wee hours of the morning before being asked to film another scene immediately afterwards.

"They were told to put on their pyjamas and rub off their makeup and pretend it was a new episode. The girls were clearly drained during this scene, but producers told them that they weren't be allowed to go to bed until they lifted their energy."

In response to the claims, a Warner Bros spokesperson told the Daily Mail: "The rose ceremonies last longer than the few minutes that are seen on television and participants are advised of this.

"Warner Bros. take the duty of care of participants very seriously and are advised to inform staff if they are not feeling well at any time. Certified first aid crew are on hand at all times to attend to anyone who should require it.

"Catered food and non-alcoholic beverages are available to the Bachelorettes before, during and after cocktail parties. If they feel like something else, their kitchen is full of good food that they have access to."
