Ben Affleck reveals he's recently been in rehab for alcohol addiction

Ben Affleck revealed he has completed treatment for alcohol addiction at a rehab facility.

The Hollywood A-lister, who sought help for alcohol abuse back in 2001, was last seen in public when he attended the Oscars on February 26.

Affleck, who shares three children with estranged wife Jennifer Garner, described the secret stint as "the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."

In a statement he posted to his Facebook page, the two-time Oscar winner said:  "I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront."

"I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step."

Affleck, who separated from Garner in 2015 but never divorced, thanked his actress wife and his friends for standing by him.

"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do," he wrote.

Affleck, 44, and Garner, also 44, are parents to daughters Violet, 11, Seraphina, eight, and son Samuel, five.
