Country music singer Carrie Underwood has warned fans her appearance has changed after having an emergency operation following a bad fall at her house in November.

Originally it was believed Carrie had only hurt her wrist, but the 34-year-old revealed in a newsletter to The Official Carrie Underwood Fan Club members that she also injured her face in the accident.

The 'American Idol' winner wrote: "There is also another part of the story that I haven't been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life ...

"In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [Fisher, Carrie's husband] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in."

Carrie said that seven weeks on from the fall she is recovering but, "not quite looking the same."

She added: "I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn't much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way."

She ended the message with: "And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different."

At the time of her fall an official statement said: "Carrie Underwood took a hard fall on some steps outside her home. While there were no life-threatening injuries, she was taken to the hospital to be treated. She sustained multiple injuries including a broken wrist and some cuts and abrasions from the fall."

As a result of the accident Carrie - who has a two-year-old son Isaiah - was forced to pull out of performing at upcoming shows.

However, US reality star chef Adrienne Gang has revealed Carrie's face post-op after running into her at the gym, saying: “I had no idea she got hurt prior to meeting her.”

Adrienne told Us Weekly: “She had a wrist brace on, but I didn’t think much of it until I saw the headlines after I posted our picture together. I didn’t notice anything amiss on her face. Simply, she looked lovely. She was extremely friendly and gracious.”

We think she still looks beautiful too!
