Country music superstar Glen Campbell dies

Glen Campbell - the legendary country music singer best known for his hit, 'Rhinestone Cowboy' - has died.

He was 81.

Campbell died at 10am on Tuesday after a long battle with Alzheimer's, his family confirmed in a statement posted to his website.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease … In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation through the CareLiving.org donation page.”

Campbell released more than 70 albums, sold over 45 million records, won 10 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in June 2011, and went on to live full-time at a Nashville memory-care facility.

Campbell is survived by his wife of 35 years Kim, daughters Ashley, Debbie and Kelli and sons Cal, Dylan, Kane, Shannon and Travis.
