TVNZ presenter Gordon Harcourt will make his final appearance on Fair Go tonight, after five years hosting the top-rating consumer affairs programme.

Harcourt took over from Kevin Milne in 2011, alongside Ali Mau, before Pippa Wetzell took over as co-host.

TVNZ head of news and current affairs John Gillespie confirmed the departure but would not comment on the reasons behind it.

"After eight years of great stories, really strong campaigning journalism; including chasing bad guys down driveways (and under garage doors), Gordon Harcourt is leaving Fair Go at TVNZ.

"His eight years on the programme (plus an earlier stint in the 90s) will be remembered fondly by our viewers and his colleagues at TVNZ - Gordon personifies dogged reporting and is a fierce protector of the consumer."

Harcourt has been missing from Fair Go in recent weeks, with reporter Brodie Kane taking on his hosting duties.

TVNZ would not be drawn on whether Kane will replace Harcourt permanently.
