We all remember back in 1998, when Ginger Spice left the Spice Girls.

Geri Horner (nee. Halliwell) left the group to launch a solo career, while the other four remained as the Spice Girls.

But she obviously misses the girls because she's going to be part of G.E.M., the Spice Girls reunion:

But what happened in 1998 that motivated Ginger Spice to walk away from the iconic group during the Spiceworld World Tour?

Geri appeared on Oprah’s Where Are They Now? last Saturday and she was open and honest.

She bluntly stated, “It was quite immature, looking back.”

“There was a moment I decided to leave the band… I felt like it [had] grown into this huge monster, bigger than the individuals, bigger than the band itself,” Geri said about the overwhelming and unexpected success of the band.

“Obviously there was bit of ruction in the band and I was like, ‘I just don’t want to do this anymore,’… It was like, ‘You’re getting on my nerves and I don’t know how to talk this through, so I’m out of here.'”

That is certainly an understandable reaction, even if Geri wishes she had handled the pressures differently.

In the same interview she also revealed the surprising way she became a Spice Girl:
