John Campbell’s awkward reunion with Hilary Barry

A sweet and slightly awkward reunion played out on TVNZ 1’s Breakfast this morning, as Hilary Barry interviewed her former Three co-star John Campbell.

Campbell appeared on Breakfast to discuss his return to television as the co-presenter of a new TVNZ show with Nigel Latta called What Next?

Barry, who joined Breakfast after resigning from Three last year, was “delighted” to see her former colleague and fellow newsreader.

But she admitted the reunion felt weird, like she was “introducing my former boyfriend to my current".

"He's a lovely young man," Campbell said of Barry's current Breakfast co-host Jack Tame.

Barry also indicated she'd been missing Campbell's presence in more ways than one.

"During the ad break we just bumped knees, I hadn't done that for a few years," she said.

Tame sat to the side with newsreader Daniel Faitaua and took selfies with the reunited pair.

TVNZ says What Next? will tackle questions about issues facing New Zealand over the next 20 years.
