Meghan Markle's half sister Samantha Grant was originally over the moon when she heard about the royal engagement.

But now she's less than impressed after Prince Harry said the royals were the family his fiancée "never had."

Opening up to Sarah Montague on BBC Radio 4's Today program, the 33-year-old revealed he and Miss Markle stayed with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Harry said: "The family loved having her there.

"There's always that family part of Christmas (where) there's always that work element there as well, and I think together we had an amazing time.

"We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running round with the kids. Christmas was fantastic."

"She's done an absolutely amazing job. She's getting in there and it's the family I suppose that she's never had."

Furious over the Prince's comments Grant took to Twitter to slam his comments.

"Actually she has a large family who were always there with her and for her. Our household was very normal and when dad and Doria divorced, we all made it so it was like she had two houses. No one was estranged, she was just too busy. Read my book complete with facts and photos."

"Meg's family (our family) is complete with sister, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and the glue of our family, our amazing completely self-sacrificing father," she wrote in another tweet. "She always had this family,..Marrying merely extends it," she continued.

"She has a large family. She always did. Our dad is amazing and completely self sacrificing. We made it so that she had two houses. How fun it was!"

When news first broke about Harry and Meghan's engagement, Grant appeared on Good Morning Britain, describing the proposal as "lovely" and said their relationship is "not about royalty so much as it is about love."

The former Suits actress and the prince are scheduled to tie the knot on May 19, 2018 at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
