Just like pasta, celebrity chef Nigella Lawson is in some hot water following an Australian interview.

Appearing on The Project, the 58-year-old was asked by presenter Hamish Macdonald about the use of sexual innuendos in her TV shows.

At the end of the interview, he stated: "I've been intrigued to read you've been rejecting all of the analysis of your cooking shows, all this kind of innuendo, you're saying, 'I don’t do it on purpose, it's not part of the plan'."

"But I’ve got some quotes."

The Aussie presenter then started to read out quotes, including: "My empty vessels are ready to be loaded. I adore the way it comes bulging over the rims."

However, Nigella was quick to plead ignorance, claiming she never uses euphemisms - and it didn't go down well with fans.

"But why, why, tell me this ... why?" she responded looking agitated.

"I don't get it. I often don't get it. I need you to explain to me."

Fans took to Twitter to slam her interview, with one saying: "Her shows are full of deliberate innuendo, there's no question that it's deliberate and she deserves to be asked those questions."

Another wrote: "Read about interview in the paper and I am appalled. You DO make innuendos and even glance flirtatiously with the camera when you do it!"

A third added: "Nigella Lawson has said time and time again on the record that she doesn't understand why she's accused of making sexual innuendos. Ummmmmm."

While some defended her, saying: "Honestly Hamish, she’s said she doesn’t intend the double entendres on her show. How disrespectful to ask further. Have you learned nothing from the #metoo #TimesUp movement? Your behaviour was inappropriate. Pull your head in."
