One of the surviving Married At First Sight couples has just broken up

We had hoped they were going to make it ...

Until recently the futures of Sharon and Nick, and Simon and Alene looked so promising.

And while Sharon and Nick looked very loved up on social media, not a lot could be found on how Simon and Alene were tracking along. 

Now, the devastating news has come that Simon and Alene have broken up.

In a joint statement to Channel Nine's The Fix, the couple said that the decision was for the best.

"It was a difficult decision but we have decided to part ways.

"We remain the greatest of friends and we will continue to be part of each others’ lives.

"We thank you for your privacy at this time."

Only last month, Alene was planning on moving from Sydney to Ipswich in Queensland to be with Simon because the long distance between them just wasn't working.

"The long distance has been hard.

"I come home on a Friday night and I call up Simon and I'm like, 'let's go out!' but obviously, that can't happen."

We are crushed, they seemed like such a gorgeous couple! We wish them all the best for the future.
