Mindy Kaling appeared on The Ellen Show and revealed that while she was in New Zealand Oprah told her she might die.

The actress - who admits she's not very outdoorsy - explained how she tried some of Aotearoa's stream water as she was told it was so clean she could drink from it.

But when she recounted the story to her A Wrinkle In Time co-star, she was shocked to hear that's how Oprah's dogs died - from drinking stream water.

Luckily it seems Mindy - who has confirmed she is expecting a baby girl - ended up being OK.

The 38-year-old actress announced in August she was expecting her first child, and has said she’s "having a great time" being pregnant so far, as she now realises she took a lot of things for granted before her stomach started to swell.

She said: "I’m very, very pregnant. I’ve had a pretty great time of it so far, but I think I took a lot for granted before this, now that I’m in my current situation. Like, sitting, I’m obsessed with sitting and even when I was standing back there I was looking at this chair and I was like, 'Awww, can’t wait to sit in that chair!'"

The Mindy Project star confirmed her baby’s gender when talking about the final episode of the comedy series, as she said she found out the show was ending around the same time she fell pregnant “with [her] own daughter”.

Mindy’s pregnancy announcement was somewhat dampened when her A Wrinkle In Time co-star Oprah Winfrey managed to let the news slip prior to her official announcement, but Mindy insists she isn’t upset about it, as she can now tell her daughter the story involving legendary talk show host.

Speaking on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Mindy said: "At first I was like, OK if anyone was going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey’s the person. You can’t complain that much about it, and you can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it!’ because she’s almost like a religious figure. I thought, ‘OK, if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter who revealed her existence to the world, Oprah’s pretty good.’"

Meanwhile, the star admitted recently that se feels “anxious” about becoming a mother.

She said: "Right now, I just feel so anxious.

"But, I'd like to be the fun mom. I know I'm gonna be the dorky mom.

So, if I could be kind of fun, too, I think that would be nice."
