Her most iconic role as Samantha in Sex and the City followed her hilarious quest to stay youthful.

But Kim Cattrall has revealed that she embraces being a 60-year-old woman, and wants the Hollywood industry to work on creating better roles for mature actresses, the Daily Mail reports.

Speaking on the Victoria Derbyshire show, the English-Canadian star admitted she can no longer rely on agents casting her, so she has moved into the role of executive producer instead.

The Mannequin star explained: "I’m not ready to play someone who is grotesque, either from being thought of as a very, very older woman at 60 - which I'm not and I don’t feel that way!

"60 now is different to my mother’s 60 and I’ve had the advantage of working out and educating myself further and working on so many things that have challenged me mentally and physically.

"They have demanded me to be much more youthful ... and I'm not ready for that."

She continued: "I just feel like there are very few roles to begin with, in the category of someone who is wanting to be young in a very desperate way or someone who has given up.

"And that's why I don’t depend on Hollywood for jobs anymore, that’s why I became an executive producer."

Kim, who has recently focused her efforts into performing on the West End and on Broadway, served as an executive producer on her latest project, Sensitive Skin.

She also starred in the Canadian TV series playing a woman in her 50s who finds it difficult to adjust to life as she gets older.

Kim previously revealed that she struggled to love her age, and initially turned down her breakthrough role in Sex and the City.

She told Event magazine: "When the show began I was 41. I felt I was too old to be sexy, I was being ageist about myself.

"It was 1997 and a woman over 40 back then was just not viewed as vital or desirable. I didn’t think I could pull it off.

"I didn’t think people would believe in her like they did. But I was absolutely wrong. Samantha broke the mould for the older woman."
