Over the weekend it was revealed by Kensington Palace officials that Meghan Markle won't have a maid of honour when she marries Prince Harry in two weeks time.

But if you think her decision was because of royal protocol - you're wrong.

The 36-year-old actress' reason behind the decision is actually something we can all relate to.

She simply couldn't single out one best friend for the role.

Press Secretary Jason Knauf revealed that Markle will not have a maid of honour because she “has a very close-knit circle of friends and she didn’t want to choose one over another.”

"All have been actively involved in helping her prepare for the day and will be there in the days beforehand. She's very happy to have their support."

It was originally believed that Meghan would choose her friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney, who is apparently the former 'Suits' actress' “secret wedding planner”.

Millie Mackintosh, Kate Middleton, Priyanka Chopra, Sarah Rafferty, Gina Torres and Serena Williams also made the short lists.

The Palace also confirmed that all of her bridesmaids will be children, which is royal protocol.

It is believed Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be part of the group.

Kensington Palace had previously announced that Prince William will serve as Prince Harry’s Best Man, just like the Harry did for his brother’s wedding in 2011.

Meghan and Harry will on May 19 at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.

The royal Wedding will be broadcast on TVNZ 1 from 9:05PM or live streamed at tvnz.co.nz.
