'Eagles of Death Metal' Talk About Paris Attacks & How They Want to Finish Show

The tearful frontman for Eagles of Death Metal says he wants to return to the site of the mass shooting where his band were playing a show and finish the gig.

In an emotional interview with Vice, Jesse Hughes, 43, says he wants to be the first band to perform at the Bataclan when it reopens after the terrorist attacks.

"I cannot wait to get back to Paris, I cannot wait to play, I want to come back ... I want to be the first band to play the Bataclan when it opens back up," he said.

"Our friends went there to see rock and roll and died. I want to go there and live." 

Eighty-nine of the Paris attacks' 130 deaths were people who were at the band's gig on November 13, where Islamist gunmen struck, firing indiscriminately at the crowd. More than 100 others were injured in the venue.

A clearly emotional Hughes described how just one person in the band's dressing room survived by hiding under the vocalist's jacket.

"Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them, except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket.

"People were playing dead and they were so scared - a great reason so many were killed was because so many people wouldn't leave their friends. So many people put themselves in front of people."

The band is launching a campaign asking bands to cover their song I Love You All The Time with all proceeds going to injured victims of the attacks and victims' families.

Drummer Julian Dorio said he was "counting down the days until I get to finish that concert".

 As the terrorists held people hostage at the Bataclan theatre, armed French police stormed the building and shot one dead, while two others blew themselves up using suicide vests. Another gunman died nearby.

The death toll from the terrorist atrocities rose to 130, one week since Isis militants attacked a concert hall, the French national stadium and several cafes and restaurants in Paris, leaving hundreds injured. Ninety remain in intensive care.
