This is one house where you could have a yabba dabba do time.

The iconic Flintstones House, up for sale outside outside San Francisco, has just hit the market for $4.2million.

The dome-shaped house, named after the famous cartoon because it resembles the 'Stone Age' home Fred and Wilma lived in, is made of wire and shotcrete and looks like reddish bubbles from above.

The funky looking house has become a familiar site to those driving on Interstate Highway 280 in Hillsborough, California.

Located at 45 Berryessa Way, the house was built in 1977 and designed by architect William Nicholson.

The house was considered a way of experimenting with new materials, technique and structure.

'Everyone knows the building driving on 280, but when they come inside, they're in awe,' said listing agent Judy Meuschke.

The unusual house is 2,730 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It also has an attached garage and eight rooms, all on two acres.

The interior is more space age than stone age, with wavy doors, a sunken 'conversation pit' living room, and oval shaped windows and skylights.

The exterior is red and purple.

The price might be a bit steep - it's double the price of comparable homes in the area - but the agent feels its a fair price for a 'landmark' house.

Meuschke says the current owner, whose artwork dots the interior, isn't selling for any particular reason, just 'moving on.'

It was last sold in 1996 for $800,000.
