This Contactless Payment Scam Could Be The Future Of Pickpocketing

A man named Paul Jarvis posted the above image on Facebook. It shows a man on a train holding a Point of Sale (PoS) device.

In theory, all this pickpocket 2.0 has to do is enter a price lower than £30 on the PoS device before pushing it against a person's pocket. The PoS will then charge the clueless victim's card (providing it's contactless).

At this stage we may be safe, as the image was first published in a Russian newspaper.

The UK Cards Association also says the crime hasn't been widely reported in the UK and that there are extremely stringent checks on merchant accounts. So we may be OK in little old New Zealand at the moment.

But with hacker forums selling customised PoS this could be something to be aware of in future.
