Benedict Cumberbatch reveals it's NZ 'fault' new 'Doctor Strange' movie is only coming out now

Jono and Ben caught up with none other than Benedict Cumberbatch - the star of the brand new Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

And the first thing they need to find out? How he liked his time in our country, of course!

The actor - who spent a lot of lockdown living in New Zealand while filming Kiwi Oscar-winning director Jane Campion’s The Power of The Dog - admitted that his love for Aotearoa hasn’t diminished one bit.

"I just love New Zealand," the star gushed. "I had the most blindly awesome experience both before and after and during the filming of an extraordinary film by one of your all-time most talented filmmakers.

"I can’t wait to have a reason to come back, I really can’t!"

However, it turns out New Zealand actually plays a role in why the new and highly anticipated Doctor Strange movie took 6 years after the first flick hit cinemas to be released.

When Ben brought it up with the British actor, Benedict confirmed that "Yeah, because you shut your country down, it basically is all of your fault."

"Blame Jacinda, when in doubt," he added, jokingly referring to Prime Minister Jacinda Arden.

Oops, sorry Marvel fans!

Jono and Ben also tested Benedict to see if some of the strange places he was rumoured to have been spotted around New Zealand her true or not …

Turns out he really did go to a trampoline park in luxurious track pants!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is out in New Zealand cinemas now!
