Meet Marlborough Apprentice #8, Savannah Saunders from Thornhill Horticultural Contracting!

From milk to wine.

Savannah found herself redundant after the dairy farm she had been working on for the last year was sold and became a vineyard. She loved the outdoor experience and hard work farming provided but found it difficult to secure another similar position in Marlborough. She then decided to look elsewhere.

It then became her focus to seek a role in the rapidly expanding Viticulture industry of which she had very little knowledge. Through MSD as it transpired Thornhill were looking to recruit and support the Mana in Mahi training program and Savannah was interviewed and found herself employed and in training in May last year.

Why did you get into your industry?

I joined Thornhill to learn and be a part of Marlborough's fastest growing industry that continues to expand and offer more and more opportunities. Also to work outdoors with a variety of different people.

How long have you been in your industry?

I have been with Thornhill for one year.

Highlights of working in your industry?

The biggest highlight of working with Thornhill has been the people. Different Ethnicities, cultures, backgrounds, ages and outlooks to life. The variety of work that I do and opportunities I’ve had is also a highlight. I have learnt so much already and am looking forward to learning more.
