The Brown Paper Bag Appeal is the Christchurch City Missions’ annual Foodbank appeal.
Last year the City Mission gave out over 30,000 food parcels to real people in real need. And this year that number is already looking like it will increase. The provision of food through their Foodbank relies wholly on the support of our community and local businesses through donations of non-perishables and fresh produce. The reality is though, that they are always in need of these donations: and this is where you all come in.
On Monday 2nd July in The Press, there will be bags inserted for people to fill with non-perishables and you’ll also find bags at your local New World. You can fill these bags when you’re there, or take them away and fill them as you can.
Once you have a full bag it’s easy – just drop it off to your local New World, where there will be a collection point to make it easy, or you can drop it off to the City Mission reception on Hereford Street.
This winter families will be choosing between paying power bills, and buying food, they’ll be struggling to keep their kids healthy and warm. They’ll be choosing between paying for doctor bills and buying food for the week.
