Parents are outraged after a primary school banned children from doing "dangerous" cartwheels and handstands.

Before the ban, Bunbury Primary School claims "at least two students a day were going to the office with injured wrists", the Daily Mail  reports.

But parents are baffled as to why the Western Australian school would forbid the practice of the playground activity.

"My granddaughter told me last night going home and I think it's absolutely ludicrous," one parent told The West Australian.

Another added: "I don't know where it has come from, but that's what they do and they've been doing it for years and I don't know what the problem is with it."

One parent simply called the ban "ridiculous" and that the school had gone too far.

"I remember doing these things when I was a kid and my daughter did the same," she wrote online.

"What's next? Least they are playing in the playground and not sitting on iPad and tablets or game consoles. Let kids be kids."

Bunbury Primary School has said the ban is temporary and will remain in place until staff look into how children can enjoy themselves safely.

"This is not about stopping kids from taking risks and having fun," Principal Shane Dougherty said in a statement.

"Telling children to refrain from these activities was only temporary."

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Bunbury Primary School for comment.
