Diane Guilemette was left with a bill totaling US $163 (NZ$228) after her 'Plenty of Fish' date sneaked out mid meal.

Diane had joined the dating website 'Plenty  of Fish' when she received a very flattering message from a man police later identified as Paul Gonzalez.

Gonzalez ordered "a lot of food" and several glasses of wine as things were going swimmingly on their first date.

It was all going great until he apparently had to take an urgent phone call outside.

He then didn't return.

She sat waiting for 15 minutes before she attempted to message Gonzalez on the dating app, she then found out that he had blocked her since he had left.

Diane was forced to pay the $228 before she left the restaurant.

When she returned home she posted on social media about her experience, several other woman commented on the post with similar stories about Gonzalez.

Guilemette says she hasn't been put of online dating, but she will be more careful choosing a partner in the future.
