Jack Tame throws co-star Matty McLean under the bus

What happens on tour, stays on tour, right?

Perhaps not, if you're a presenter on TVNZ's Breakfast.

Weatherman Matty McLean was left squirming on the show on Monday morning when co-host Jack Tame made a joke about his recent trip to the Glastonbury music festival.

As the Breakfast team gathered on screen ahead of the 8am news, Hilary Barry teased an upcoming interview about drugs at festivals.

"If you go to a festival and take drugs, do you really know what you're taking?" she said to camera, as McLean struggled to keep a straight face nearby.

Tame then chose that moment to ask his colleague (and best friend of 12 years): "How was Glastonbury, Matty? Was that alright? Just out of interest."

As he dissolved into a fit of laughter, Tame added, "I'm sorry, I couldn't resist it."

The camera cut to McLean, who was seen with his head in his hands, before he ordered everyone to "move on".

A week ago, McLean was reminiscing on Instagram about his first trip to the famed music festival, saying "nothing beats Glastonbury in the flesh".

"You damn near killed me, but it was worth it," he wrote.

When McLean was revealed as Breakfast's new weather presenter back in January, he told Spy he couldn't wait to work alongside Tame.

"I'm clearly a sucker for punishment agreeing to work alongside Jack. I've had 12 years of ribbing from him, and now I'm putting myself in the firing line every morning on live television," he said.

"But, honestly, I couldn't be more excited to come back and work with my best mate. When we were studying together, we could have only dreamed that one day we'd find ourselves in a position where the bosses at TVNZ were crazy enough to make us the presenters of a national morning show. But it's about to become a reality and it's incredibly exciting.

"The whole team is fantastic though and, truth be told, I'll probably end up swapping out Jack for Hilary as my best friend by the end of week one."

And if McLean hasn't already swapped Tame out as his best friend, we dare say he may have thought about it this week.
