Over the weekend, former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo made his first public appearance since being diagnosed with brain cancer.

The 29-year-old was rushed to hospital in August after suffering from a bad migraine.

But the migraine was actually a large brain tumour, which saw Ruffo undergo life-threatening brain surgery.

Doctors later diagnosed him with a stage three oligodendroglioma, a rare brain cancer.

Speaking with New Idea magazine, Ruffo said: "Without the operation, there was a 100 per cent certainty I would have died because of the pressure on my brain".

Attending a charity gala in Sydney on Saturday night, you would never know the horrific ordeal Ruffo has been through.
