Why Ed Sheeran delayed going to the hospital after breaking both of his arms

Ed Sheeran didn’t realise he had fractured both his arms until the morning after his cycling accident.

The Castle on the Hill hitmaker was recently forced to cancel several tour dates after being involved in an accident whilst riding his bike in London earlier this week.

But Ed has now revealed he didn’t take himself to the hospital to get his injuries - which include fractures in his right wrist and left elbow - looked at until the morning after his fall, as he had originally picked himself up and cycled home.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: "I got up and cycled home then went to bed and woke up in the morning in a lot of pain and then went to hospital. I didn’t even know anything was broken until the next morning."

Since the accident, Ed, 26, isn't sure if any of his famous friends have been in touch with get well soon messages because he can't access his emails.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz about his dilemma at the Q Awards in the UK, he said: "I can't type at the moment, I've had a lot of emails but I haven't been able to look at them, I have an automatic reply that just goes out when I get an email so I don't know anyone whose emailed me because I can't look at them."

The singer expects to be out of action for around a month and he might spend that time writing a song about his bike riding accident.

He said: "I've done my wrist, elbow and rib, I can't do done shows but I'll be back in a month ... I'll probably write a song about it."

Ed's mood was lifted at the ceremony, held at The Roundhouse venue, when he was named Best Act in the World Today.

He was presented with his prize by Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and made a joke about his less than perfect physical state.

He said: "I know I'm a bit of a cripple today, but thanks. This award is actually a bit heavy."

Recently, the 26-year-old singer revealed he has been left unable to perform in Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong as he continues to heal his wounds.


He shared on his Instagram page: "A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.

"Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I'm waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details. PS - Ed isn't typing this as he has both arms casted/bandaged.”

The Shape of You singer had previously revealed he was "waiting on some medical advice" before making a final decision about his upcoming shows.

He shared: "I've had a bit of a bicycle accident and I'm currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my upcoming shows. Please stay tuned for further news. Ed x (sic)"
