Wedding guest's 'mortifying' mistake goes viral after being caught on camera

There are a lot of wedding etiquette rules that shouldn’t be broken and yet, it seems not everyone is always aware of them.

One wedding guest has outed herself for a serious blunder she made during her friend’s big day.

The modified woman shared a video of herself confidently going up to the wedding cake, grabbing a knife and cutting herself off a slice.

Oops!

While the cake cutting had already happened, traditionally the top tier of the cake is reserved for the newlyweds to keep and eat on their first anniversary.

"My apologies to the bride and groom," she captioned the shocking TikTok clip.

"Me ignoring the brownie table and confidentially [sic] cutting myself a slice of HER WEDDING CAKE thinking, 'Uh-oh! They forgot to serve it to everyone'," she wrote in text over the footage.

"I know better now. I hate myself."

The video quickly went viral and has since amassed nearly four million views and hundreds of comments.

One comment even came from the bride herself, who reassured everyone that the friends are still on good terms after the cake catastrophe.

"As the bride whose cake this is – she is formally forgiven and has learned her lesson in wedding etiquette," the bride wrote.

However, others in the comments said they wouldn’t be as forgiving of the "mortifying" mistake.

"Did you lose your mind? I hope you found it," one user wrote.

"Honestly this isn't even funny and this is why I will elope because of selfish unaware people like you," another said.

"I would be absolutely mortified," someone else wrote.

However, others argued that friendship is always worth more than a slice of cake.

"As someone getting married in the near future I seriously wouldn't care. It's just a cake, who cares? People get way too uptight over weddings," one said.

"Why is everyone so mad she obviously didn't know," another added.

One more said: "Friends are way more valuable than cake. It would take me two seconds to forgive this."
