Before we all get really excited and decide to drink excessive amounts of Gin, let's just kindly remind ourselves that it is still alcohol and must be consumed in moderation.

Right, now that the formalities are out of the way, here are five reasons why gin (a.k.a. juniper juice) can be good for us:

1. It can help to ease aching joints

If you suffer from joint problems, a little gin could help. Arthritis sufferers have long been known to eat gin-soaked raisins to help reduce inflammation. As the folk remedy goes; soak a handful of golden raisins in a bowl of gin, let it evaporate, and then eat up to nine raisins a day. Though there are no official studies to conclusively prove it works beyond placebo-effect, the anecdotal evidence is fairly compelling.

2. It could fend off illness

Juniper berries are considered a superfood, in that they come laden with fortifying antioxidants and plenty of vitamin C, which could help to stave off colds, flu and bugs.

3. Juniper is a diuretic

Long used as a medicinal herb, juniper is also thought to help kidney function as well as ease water retention, bloating and urinary tract infections too, thanks to the diuretic effect of the berries.

4. It could help keep your skin healthy

Though alcohol is often blamed for dehydrating the skin, the vitamins, flavonoids and antioxidants in juniper berries could help to mitigate those drying effects for a healthy skin boost.

5. It might help sluggish digestion

The bitter herbs crammed into every bottle could help to boost the body’s digestive enzymes and aid the stomach in breaking down food more quickly. These same herbs can help to ease heartburn too.
