Yep.

It's Valentine’s Day!

And if you're part of the populace that doesn't roll their eyes at the mere mention of the day, then we have five romantic gestures to impress the special man or woman in your life.

The flowers

It all starts with the flowers, obviously.

And if you're really wanting to impress this year, then best you head to a boutique florist, such as Parnell's Blush. Not only do their flowers look beautifully luscious, but you have the option to pair them with a cake mix from another popular Auckland institution, The Caker.

Flowers and cake? Yes please!

But whatever florist you decide to go with, best you book now, else your Valentine will be stuck toting around a few supermarket blooms on the big day.

The dinner

Heading out for a nice dinner is a classic Valentine's Day treat. And if it's a treat you're after, then pray to St Valentine that you get a table at Hipgroup's Amano in Tyler Street.

Famous folk and commoners alike have sung this restaurant's praises after dining on their Italian-inspired menus. And the establishment’s beautiful fit-out will only add to the atmosphere on the night.

And fear not. The restaurant only takes bookings for 50 percent of their dining room each day, so if you haven't booked anything yet, you can still take your chances on grabbing a table. (Although you’re spoiled for choice in downtown Auckland these days if you find every other romantic soul in the city has had the same idea.)

The drinks

If you or your Valentine are a fan of the finer things in life, then booking yourselves in for a whisky tasting at The Jefferson is a fine option.

With more than 500 varieties of whisky and bourbon on offer, you're bound to find something to suit your palate. (But be sure to order a little something from their menu to go with, otherwise it might be a messy evening all round.)

Michelle Blanchard was enjoying drinks at The Jefferson this week – and if it’s good enough for the Real Housewives of Auckland, then it’s good enough for your significant other.

The bling

Might we interest you in a little pre-dinner shopping? Perhaps a nice engagement ring? (No? Too much?)

Then we suggest taking a stroll around Tiffany & Co in Britomart.

Even if the budget doesn't stretch to an exceptionally sparkly bauble for your love interest, the store's magnificent fit-out – and the wares, of course - will give you something to chat about over dinner.

The classic film

What's more romantic than cuddling up to enjoy a little outdoor cinema? (On a warm, still evening, anyway.)

Silo Park's Valentine's Day special is a screening of the highly quotable The Princess Bride. Pack your picnic blanket, grab a drink and a bite to eat at the nearby food trucks and relax while you enjoy this movie classic.

(Although have a back-up plan, as the forecast is looking a little dicey for this evening)

And if you wind up leaving it too late to book anything in for Valentine's Day, then make a note of all of the above anyway. Because we say every day is a good day for romancing your main squeeze.
