Wouldn't it be great if you could suss out whether your relationship is going to last the distance?

According to one dating expert, you can do just that, the Daily Mail reports.

James Preece, also known as The Dating Guru, says there's one sign you can look out for that proves you and your partner are meant to be - and if it's there, you're in it for the long haul.

According to James, the most important thing any successful couple must share is a fantastic sense of humour.

He told FEMAIL: "When this is in alignment, you'll be able to see the funny side of most situations and generally be more relaxed about what life may throw at you. Any arguments can be diffused and you'll appreciate each other much more."

James adds that humour also demonstrates a high degree of intelligence, so it's an attractive quality, especially for women looking for a mate.

"However, to make things work really well, you have to have what's known as "affiliative" humour.

"This is the type of humour that boosts happiness, well-being and brings people together. It's all about finding common ground with shared stories and anecdotes.

"When you can both laugh about things together then you'll naturally bond and be a stronger couple."
