Human skeletal remains found at Auckland beach

Skeletal remains have been found near an Auckland beach this morning.

The remains — believed to be human — were discovered near Hauraki Rd, in the Auckland suburb of Takapuna.

A member of the public made the grim discovery at about 5.20am, Detective Sergeant Ross Clapp said.

Police are at the scene on the beach at the end of Hauraki Rd.

At this stage the remains are believed to human, police said.

Police are still at the scene and are currently in the process of recovering the remains.
