Police are investigating an attempted abduction where a man has tried to force a 10-year-old boy into the boot of a car as he walked home from school.

Whangarei Police are appealing for information from people who may have seen the man allegedly attempting to force the boy into his car on McClintock St, Whau Valley, as the boy and two other school children were walking home about 3pm yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Dave Hamilton said the driver of a car a silver, older-model four door sedan stopped in the middle of the road adjacent to the three children.

He tried to force the boy into the boot of the car. The boy managed to escape and ran off with the other two children and hid in bushes.

The male driver is described as European, with black/brown curly shoulder length hair, wearing a black hoodie, black jeans, and had tattoos on both forearms.

People who have information can contact Detective Sergeant Hamilton on 09 430 4596, or you can provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
