A study of the results of 15 year olds from 72 countries in science, maths and reading... has New Zealand in at 10th for literacy.

In the three-yearly Programme of International Student Achievement, Kiwi students come in at 21st for maths, and 12th for science.

The report, conducted last year, saw New Zealand rise at least two places in all three fields.

The country with the highest level of achievement in all three subjects is Singapore.
