New Zealand's only pelican has died at his home in Wellington Zoo.
Lanky was euthanased after his health deteriorated, and he began to refuse food and medication.
The pelican was one of the oldest residents at the zoo, having been rescued from drought in Adelaide nearly 40 years ago.
Lanky also had a mischievous history, having escaped from his enclosure in the past.
Spokesman Mauritz Basson says staff are particularly sad to see Lanky go, as he was a much loved character by everyone who cared for him.
