Police are still searching for a female runner who went missing during a trail run in Rimutaka Forest Park.

The alarm was first raised when Susan O'Brien, 29, from Johnsonville, failed to finish the XTERRA Wellington Trail Running Series on Sunday.

SAR teams camped in the park overnight after searching the tracks and area around the Forest Park and Orongorongo track tonight, police said.

Wellington Police Senior Sergeant Andrzej Kowalczyk said an incident management team had been set up to collect information from other runners who had seen her during the day.

The 20km race, which started at 9am, should have only taken around two and a half hours to complete and concern was raised when the woman failed to finish by yesterday afternoon, police said.

Ms O'Brien's brother, Lester Khoo, posted a picture of her just before the run on the XTERRA Trail Run Facebopok page last night. He appealed for help: "My sister Susan O'Brien, one of the Wellington Runners is missing following the run.

"Susan ran the long XTERRA at Catchpool and is missing. Do you remember seeing Susan while you were running?

"Susan is a 29 year old NZ born Asian woman; she is wearing a pink headband, grey jacket, black under armour tights and red/ pink shoes."

Anyone who has any information is asked to call the Wellington District Command Centre on 04 4963473.
