Chocoholics, we have some bad news...

In less than 40 years time, the world could run out of chocolate.

Why?

Because of global warning.

Yes, you read that right.

According to experts, the cacao plant will struggle to survive the increases in the world’s temperatures.

Even just a temperature rise of just 2.1 degrees celsius could see the end of the chocolate industry worldwide by 2050.

Over half of the world's chocolate comes from just two countries - Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana - where the temperature, rain, and humidity provide the perfect conditions for cacao to thrive.

Doug Hawkins, from London-based research firm Hardman Agribusiness, said production of cocoa is under strain.

“All the indicators are that we could be looking at a chocolate deficit of 100,000 tonnes a year in the next few years,” he said.

We just can't imagine a world without chocolate!
