It turns out the original plot of The Santa Clause had a very dark twist to it – and it could have potentially ruined Christmas for kids around the world.

The star of the hit 1994 holiday movie, Tim Allen revealed the shocking story during an appearance on The Tonight Show.

"The original Santa Clause is a little darker, written by two comedians," Tim revealed to the late show host Jimmy Fallon.

"And I actually shot and killed Santa."

That's right, Tim Allen was supposed to KILL SANTA!

"He fell off the roof because I thought he was a burglar," Tim continued, "He gives me the card, the whole movie starts … But the kid actually starts with, 'You just killed Santa.' And I said 'He shouldn’t have been on the roof when he wasn’t invited.'"

But – thankfully – Disney wouldn't let that be the story that made it to the big screen.

"I’m laughing so hard, but the head of Disney at the time, [Jeffrey] Katzenberg said, 'Well, we can’t start a movie like that,' and I said, 'Why not?'" Tim recalled, "And he said, 'We can’t start a Disney movie with you murdering Santa.'"

The Toy Story actor also admitted that he didn’t make a good Santa off-screen.

"I’m literally the last guy in the world who should be Santa Claus because I don’t like kids all that much," Tim joked. "I’m not going to hurt them, I don’t say inappropriate stuff, just don’t like them."
