Aussie DJ Cyril reveals what led to his surprise collab with James Blunt

Australian DJ Cyril has been on a hot streak - and now he’s added a surprising name to his list of collaborators: James Blunt.

In a chat with Jono, Ben & Megan, the laidback producer joined in from Darwin (where, yes, the crocs are real and very big) to talk about how the unexpected team-up came about.

“It all started at a writing camp,” Cyril explained. “Me and a few guys came up with some ideas, and one of the writers who works with James was like, ‘Hey, I’ll send a few of these through and see what he thinks.’ And then yeah - he liked one of them!”

From there, it was a Zoom session across time zones, and the track came together. “We smashed out a tune,” Cyril said casually, as if dropping a banger with the guy who gave us You're Beautiful was just another day at the office.

Of course, the team couldn’t resist asking about Cyril’s hometown. “What’s the biggest crocodile you’ve come across?” Jono asked.

“I had a close encounter once while fishing,” Cyril recalled. “We’d caught some bait and put it in the boat, then a croc came up trying to eat it! I was like, ‘****!’”
