On your marks! Get set! Jono Pryor is hitting the track for 'Track Stars'

We’ve seen him behind the mic. We’ve heard the chaos. Now it’s time to see if he can actually run.

That’s right - The Hits’ very own Jono Pryor is lacing up his sneakers and stepping onto the starting blocks for Track Stars, airing live on Saturday 7 March on TVNZ.

And we could not be more excited to cheer him on.

From studio to starting blocks

In a night that blends elite athletics with high-energy entertainment, Jono will swap studio banter for sprint spikes as he takes on the 100m, 400m and Shot Put - competing against a lineup of fellow Kiwi celebrities for the title of New Zealand’s first Track Star.

Yes. This is real.
Yes. We’re slightly concerned.
Yes. We’ll be screaming at the TV anyway.

Jono is heading into the event with his signature mix of confidence and chaos, saying he’s “couldn’t be more excited and more underprepared” - which honestly feels very on brand. He’s promised enthusiasm, possible hamstring drama, and maximum entertainment.

"There’s nothing more exhilarating than the thrill of potentially pulling a hamstring live on national TV," Jono says. "The event is free to air, free general admission and is going to be fun for the whole family."

And we’ll be backing him every stride of the way.

A huge night for NZ Athletics

While Jono is battling it out on the track, the event also showcases some of Aotearoa’s biggest athletics stars competing for national titles, including:

  • Hamish Kerr

  • Zoe Hobbs

  • Tom Walsh

  • Maddie Wesche

  • Anna Grimaldi

  • Lisa Adams

And many more incredible Kiwi athletes.

The event will be hosted by an all-star presenting team led by Dame Valerie Adams, alongside Scotty Stevenson, Sarah Cowley Ross and Matt Gibb - bringing expert insight and serious energy to the night.

Watch it live

Track Stars airs live: Saturday 7 March, 7.00pm - 9.45pm on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+

If you’re in Auckland, you can even catch the action in person at Douglas Track & Field, Trusts Arena, with free general admission available.

But wherever you’re watching from, one thing’s for sure - we’ll be proudly cheering on our guy as he sprints, throws, and (hopefully) finishes upright.

Let’s go, Jono!
