OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder is secretly obsessed with NZ
Turns out OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder isn’t just a global hitmaker - he’s also a massive New Zealand fanboy.
Chatting with Jono, Ben & Megan on The Hits Breakfast, Ryan revealed that Aotearoa has had a special place in his heart since he was a kid.
“New Zealand was number one on my list since I was probably 10,” he said. “I did a book report on it in geography!”
What kicked off the obsession? “The photos you see of New Zealand - it’s just endless green and mountains and beauty,” he said, before describing the landscape in the most hilarious way possible: “It’s like if Hawaii and California had a one-night stand … and maybe a trouple with an Irishman.”
He’s not just talking the talk either - Ryan’s been here, driven the South Island, sampled the wine in Martinborough, and even has the ink to prove his love.
“I’ve got a little memories' sake", he said, proudly showing off his silver fern tattoo.
And if that wasn't enough, he’s also pitched a wild idea to our government: a remixed national anthem. “I’m talking with your Prime Minister,” he joked. “I hope you guys like Soulja Boy and Sabrina Carpenter!”
We’re not sure if the anthem’s getting a beat drop anytime soon, but one thing’s clear - Ryan Tedder is practically an honorary Kiwi.
