Watch the unforgettable moment Mel C surprised Spice Girls superfan Matty McLean

When Mel C FaceTimed Matty McLean from The Hits Drive, it wasn’t just a call - it was a bucket list moment.

Mel C, the iconic Sporty Spice from the Spice Girls, caught up with Jono, Ben & Megan from The Hits Breakfast, and they thought it would be the perfect moment for a special surprise for a true Spice Girls lover.

Matty McLean, a devoted Spice Girls superfan, ticked off a major “40 before 40” bucket list item when he got looped in on a call with Mel C. Overwhelmed with emotion, Matty asked if it’s okay for boys to embrace girl power - to which Mel’s enthusiastic answer was a resounding YES.

Along with the unforgettable FaceTime, Mel opened up about her new single “Sweat”, joking that she’s not naturally a sweaty person. She also reflected on her Sporty Spice identity - something she once tried to step away from but now fully embraces as part of who she is.

Keeping true to that sporty spirit, Mel stays incredibly active, regularly competing in triathlons and half marathons, and even eyeing Hyrox, a CrossFit-style competition.

Mel also reminisced about some of her most unforgettable career moments, including performing alongside legends like Stevie Wonder and Luciano Pavarotti. And while a Spice Girls reunion tour isn’t confirmed, she remains optimistic for what’s to come.

Her love for New Zealand shone through as she recalled DJing in Auckland, savouring local wines, and even spotting quirky Kiwi signs warning about “scary cows” during her runs.

Mel has also been mentoring rising star Cassie Henderson from The Voice Australia, praising her talent and staying in regular contact.

From surprising a superfan to sharing new tunes and fond Kiwi memories, Mel C’s Sporty Spice spirit is as vibrant and inspiring as ever. Watch her full interview above or listen to it now on iHeartRadio.
