There are so many things to think about when you’re having a baby …

Setting up the nursery for their arrival, getting those adorable baby booties, making sure you have enough nappies …

But for Laura McGoldrick – who has 10-month-old daughter Harley - there was an extra item on the list, which most people don’t always think about: banking her baby’s cord blood.

"It's insurance for your bubba," Laura says, "I did it for Harley, and I'm so glad I did."

Cord blood is the blood remaining in the umbilical cord after the birth of your child – and according to Jenni Raynish, one of the founders of CordBank New Zealand, says collecting it could potentially be life-changing for your child.

Watch above to hear what Jenni had to say about the potential benefits of storing cord blood and the precious stems cells they contain.
