In an interview with ABC news, David Beckham opened up about the pressure his sons face living in his shadow.
David stressed that he would love his sons to play soccer, but as long as they’re happy doing it. One of his sons said to him recently ‘Daddy, you know, I’m not sure I want to play football all the time.’
David admitted it was hard to hear, as his son further revealed that every time he stepped on the field he knew people would be saying, ‘This is David Beckham’s son,’ His son continued with ‘if I’m not as good as you, then it’s not good enough.’
Earlier this year, Arsenal reportedly cut Beckham’s eldest son, 16-year-old Brooklyn, from its Youth Academy.
While Beckham takes a hands-on approach to parenting, he admitted his designer wife is the “strict one in the house”.
David has assured his sons that the only reason they should be playing soccer is if it makes them happy.
