His potty mouth has arguably found him as much fame as his impressive culinary abilities.

But Gordon Ramsay admitted he once received a taste of his own medicine from none other than the Queen, during a typically foul-mouthed interview on The Late Show, the Daily Mail reports.

Speaking to host Stephen Colbert, the 50-year-old quipped he had been given a "little handshake and a polite f*** off" by the monarch, after being awarded his OBE back in 2006.

Michelin-star chef Gordon is infamous for his fierce temper and heavy use of expletives, on shows such as Hell's Kitchen and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

Ironically promoting his new series of The F Word on The Late Show, the TV chef confessed even the Queen had addressed his famously foul mouth - during his exciting OBE ceremony.

When asked if he was presented with a sword on the big day, Gordon explained: "No, that's when you get knighted.

"OBE is under that so it's sort of a little handshake and a polite f**k off. She sort of mutters it under her breath."

With TV regulations working differently over in the States, Stephen then explained guests were not allowed to swear on the chat show - but they had made an exception for Gordon.

In his usual playful style, the chef fired back in disbelief: "At 11:35 at a f**king night?!"

Ramsay also berated the show's host at his request as he made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
