Te Papa, our national museum has opened its new exhibition “Gallipoli: The Scale Of Our War” ahead Anzac Day and the centenary of the Gallipoli landings of 1915.
Our very own Polly spoke with Sir Richard Taylor from Weta Workshop who were spearheading this project along with Te Papa.
“This has been an amazing opportunity for us because we were brought on from the very beginning and then carry the project with Te Papa” Richard said.
“It’s something so special for such an extremely important subject and history… It’s certainly different to any war exhibition seen in the world. We have done a number of things that have never been undertaken to make the subject matter and the people in which we are remembering their lives, connect with young New Zealanders.”
“We wanted to create an exhibition that would touch people’s hearts and minds… These ordinary people that went to Gallipoli came back extraordinary people whether they survived or lost their lives in the battlefield, they are now monuments in the history of the country”
