A new documentary about Russell Brand may bring up some bad blood with Katy Perry.

Their 14-month marriage came to an end in 2011 when Brand text Perry saying he wanted a divorce – with the split playing out in cinemas as a part of Perry’s documentary ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’.

In the film Katy said, "If you can believe in something great, I feel like you can achieve something great. I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail. And I did everything it took, but it still failed."

Now three years after her film, the Brand-Perry relationship is back onscreen in Russell’s new doco ‘BRAND: A Second Coming’.

The doco premiered at the SXSW festival in the states on Friday night and takes place while Brand is married to Perry and he has a sudden epiphany about fame and his place in the world.

The comedian is shown visiting Nairobi, where children are digging through a garbage dump loaded with hypodermic needles and other dangerous refuse; the footage then changes to Brand discussing a lavish party he attended with Perry. It's a turning point that pushes Brand away from his ascension up the Hollywood ladder and toward his current place as a political activist.

Later in the film Brand reveals his unique philosophy on human connections, stating, “I cut people out of my life if I think things aren't functioning," over footage of the 39-year-old visiting his grandmother's grave site with his father.

"And I think, 'What am I making this effort for?'"

Brand failed to attend the debut screening of ‘BRAND: A Second Coming’ announcing on Friday that he was “very uncomfortable” watching the film.
