You may have noticed that Kesha’s music career came to a halt and it has been revealed as to why. Last October, the Tik Tok singer filed a sexual assault civil lawsuit against her producer Dr. Luke; and the legal battle continues.
Allegedly, Dr. Luke had drugged, raped and threatened to take away her publishing rights.
Kesha’s legal team has now stepped forward and argued that her career should not be penalised just because of the continuing lawsuit. They’ve argued that 'unless the court issues this injunction, Kesha will suffer irreparable harm, plummeting her career past the point of no return.'
Luke (Dr. Luke) Gottwald has denied the allegations and has not been charged at this point. He has retaliated with a defamation lawsuit, claiming Kesha is fabricating the allegations.
Kesha wrote to the NY Daily News recently, '…I beg of you to please consider letting me put out my music without me having to work with him, please.’
Due to her contract with Dr. Luke, she is unable to work under other producers.
The issue was further complicated because Kesha amended her civil complaint in June to include Sony Music Entertainment, claiming the company turned a blind eye towards Dr. Luke's abusive treatment of her.
A spokesperson for Dr. Luke told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday that Kesha's career woes are her own fault as 'it was Kesha who chose to file a lawsuit falsely alleging abuse to gain advantage in contract negotiations, and now she must accept the consequences of her improper actions.”
They have requested a hearing in the New York Superior Court on October 7.
